The head of the World Health Organization said Wednesday that he's worried about the omicron and delta variants of COVID-19 combining to produce a “tsunami” of cases, but said he's still hopeful that the world will put the worst of the pandemic behind it in 2022. Two years after the coronavirus first emerged, top officials with the UN health agency cautioned that it's still too early to be reassured by initial data suggesting that omicron, the latest variant, leads to milder disease. First reported last month in southern Africa, it is already the dominant variant in the United States and parts of Europe.
A 7-day home quarantine has been mandated for international arrivals from UAE, including Dubai, who are residents of Mumbai. RTPCR on arrival will be mandatory for such passengers, Mumbai civic body has said. The move comes after a significant rise in Covid cases in Mumbai today. The city today recorded 2,510 new Covid cases, about 82% higher than yesterday's 1,377 Covid cases.





Three terrorists were killed and a policeman injured in two separate encounters between security forces and ultras in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. While one encounter broke out in Anantnag district, another gunfight took place in Kulgam district – both in south Kashmir.




Delhi and Maharashtra today added to the growing concerns of rising Covid-19 cases in India, as they registered 496 and 2,172 fresh coronavirus cases respectively. In the case of the national capital, today's fresh cases were almost 50 percent more than what it registered yesterday. Whereas, Maharashtra today crossed the 2000 mark, up by 50 percent from 1,426 infections recorded a day before.


The protesting doctors have decided to continue their agitation over the delay in NEET PG counselling. "We are continuing the agitation till our demands are met," said Manish, President of Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA), in a tweet. 



Resident doctors of government-run hospitals on Monday called for a complete shutdown of all health care institutions starting Monday after they have been detained by the Delhi Police. The doctor's body, in an official statement, said that they were “brutally thrashed, dragged, and detained” by the police. 
Amid rising Covid cases across the country, at least 9 states in the country have imposed a night curfew. The states also include the national capital, apart from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Haryana, Gujarat, Kerala, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh. The night curfews imposed, come in the wake of rising Covid 19 cases in the state. Apart from these 9 states, night curfew is also imposed in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman, and Diu till December 31.










Bharat Biotech's Covaxin is likely to be the only COVID-19 vaccine available, for now, for children in the age group of 15-18 years, who will be inoculated from January 3, official sources said. Also, healthcare and frontline workers and citizens above 60 years of age with comorbidities would be administered the third dose of the same vaccine they had been given before. 
















Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday that vaccination against COVID-19 for healthcare and frontline workers would be administered from January 10. The announcement comes amid rising Covid cases linked to the Omicron variant of the virus.









At least 40 people died and over 150 others were injured early Friday after a packed three-storey ferry carrying around 800 passengers caught fire on the Sugandha River in southern Bangladesh, officials said, in the latest maritime tragedy to hit the delta nation criss-crossed by rivers.
